Home Security Tips

Install a CCTV System

It is impossible to completely prevent an intruder, but a CCTV system can not only provide evidence should a crime be committed, but it can also act as a deterrent for any potential criminal activity. When you are away from home, you can view the video surveillance footage remotely, giving you the peace of mind you may need, whether day-to-day or when on holiday or away on business.

Notification of Cameras

In order to further deter would-be trespassers, you should also add a warning or notification that security cameras are in operation. Whilst it may be possible to see some cameras, having additional signage will act as a further deterrent as viewers may come to the conclusion that there could be more cameras inside the property, including those that are not as visible. Visible cameras can be covered, blocked, or cut, but hidden cameras, along with the appropriate signage, can take your security system a step further.

Keeping Your Home Safe

Protecting Both Your Family and Possessions

Having a reliable home security system, including intruder alarms and CCTV technology, can help to protect your family members, as well as your property and possessions. Whether you have older family members or children at home while you are away, these measures can reassure you that they are okay if you are ever worried. You can check any elderly family members are okay without bothering them with your concern, and you can make sure older children who may be left home alone are being responsible.

Make Sure the Whole Household Follows These Golden Rules

As well as installing your home security system, you also need to make sure that everyone know what to do to keep themselves and the property safe. Stop any traumatic experiences with burglars by locking all doors when at home, as well as when you are out. Burglaries are not only bad in terms of having possessions stolen, but they can also leave you with a sense of fear and vulnerability in your own home, which can be worse when you witness the criminals yourself. You should keep windows shut during the night, or install window restrictors. Hiding valuables is useful, whether it’s keeping keys away from the letterbox, or covering electronics, like big televisions. Outside the house, make sure to store any ladders and tools inside a shed or garage, so you don’t unwittingly help burglars enter your property. You should also avoid hiding keys under plant pots, and when you’re away make use of the Royal Mail’s ‘keepsafe’ service that keeps your mail for you whilst away. Added to that, avoid writing too much on social media when away, as this could tell criminals that the property is vacant.
